The iconic Essential Haircare line has always represented our greatest achievements along the infinite path towards ever-growing sustainability. This evolution is the latest reimagining, drawing on relentless scientific research that demonstrates our tireless pursuit of beauty that is good and fair for the world.
But this is not the end of our efforts. Because when it comes to sustainability, we will never feel like we have made it. And we remain committed to never stop exploring new ways to do what is right for our customers and our planet.

A lot can change in two decades, and Essential Haircare has come a long way since it was first launched in 2004. True to our scientific vocation, we have tirelessly explored uncharted directions, and with every milestone achieved, we don’t celebrate a final result, but rather a simple step along the path of continuous research.

Conscious that all production activities have an impact on the environment, we are committed to making our environmental footprint ever lighter, constantly improving our formulations and the way they reach your hands.
The new Essential Haircare line features:
Regenerative Organic CertifiedTM active ingredients¹ sourced from farms dedicated to restoring soil ecosystems.
New naturally derived ingredients and high performance polymers, with an average of 93% ingredients of natural origin² and an average of 92% biodegradability³.
Renewed packaging with ISCC certified Bio-Circular Mass-Balance5 plastic made from industrial biological waste, such as used cooking oil.

²ISO: 16128.
³Calculated as the sum of readily biodegradable ingredients according to the OECD 301 method.
⁴Bio-circular mass balance plastic is plastic linked, via the ISCC PLUS mass balance approach, to renewable feedstock derived from biological waste, such as used cooking oil. Under this system, bio-circular and virgin feedstocks are physically mixed, but the share of bio-circular material is allocated on a bookkeeping basis and tracked through a certified and transparent chain of custody.

Newformulasforanewera
At the heart of our products are the formulas, which we believe proudly represent everything that is needed, and everything that is right.
The evolved Essential Haircare formulas are even more essential, removing what is unnecessary and delivering both greater sustainability and optimal performance.
As well as improving naturality and biodegradability, we have also fine tuned the texture of the products, especially the conditioners, to make them more fluid. This ensures optimized distribution while preserving a rich, refined, and perfectly balanced sensorial experience.

IntroducingRegenerativeOrganicAgriculture
In 2014, we made a commitment to preserving natural ecosystems by partnering with Slow Food to source active ingredients for the Essential Haircare range from Slow Food Presidia. Today, as we continue to support biodiversity through this collaboration, we are moving beyond it with the even bolder goal of promoting not only the protection but regeneration.
The new Essential Haircare formulations are now enriched with Regenerative Organic Certified™ active ingredients⁶ sourced from farms around the world. Regenerative Organic Agriculture presents a pathway to reverse the damage done by farming, by using techniques that restore the soil ecosystem and help mitigate climate change.

Moreprogressforourpackaging
One of the biggest packaging innovation for Essential Haircare came in 2017, when we developed bio-based plastic bottles from renewable plant sources. Since then we have added shampoo bars with 100% recyclable paper packaging and shampoo refills featuring 74% less plastic7.
As part of the latest evolution and our ongoing commitment, we’ve redesigned the packaging once more using eco design principles, following the approach towards circularity defined in our sustainability strategy.

As well as introducing ISCC certified Bio-Circular Mass-Balance plastic, which reduces the use of fossil materials and helps to lower CO₂ emissions, we’ve also focused on format redesign. We’ve minimised the amount of materials used, particularly with the professional products, creating:
A new 1L bottle with a reduced neck that uses 14% less plastic compared to the previous bottle
A 2L refill pouch for shampoo and conditioner that uses 76% less plastic compared to 2 new 1L bottles.
New paper-based materials composed of 80% renewable-sourced content for our paper-based sachets, using 70% less plastic and 63% less aluminium compared to the previous version
