      Behind
      the
      formula:
      the
      science
      of
      Essential
      Haircare

Every hairstylist knows that the success of a technical service depends on the fundamental trio of cleansing, conditioning and protection. These essential and often underestimated steps are the real architects of a good final result and therefore of how happy your client will be.

With the relaunch of Essential Haircare, Davines has redefined an iconic line with a new generation of formulation chassis that is simpler and more pleasing for the senses than ever, while reaching for ever-growing sustainability.

Read on to find out more about the innovations we’ve developed, the new active ingredients and the results they deliver, and how we’ve created a line that is more positive for your clients and for the planet.

      First,
      what
      is
      the
      formulation
      chassis?

The formulation chassis is the basic structure of a cosmetic formulation. It is the set of ingredients that form the backbone of a product, on which the active ingredients that produce the specific effectiveness of that product are then inserted.

The basic functional ingredients that make up the chassis include emulsifiers, humectants, emollients, preservatives and carriers. Together these work to create the product’s texture, make it more pleasant to use, and convey active ingredients where they’re needed.

The result? A completely renewed line: nine product families, each with a clear function: to deliver hydration, nourishment, volume, colour protection, brightness, elasticity, softness, or daily cleansing.

      Even
      more
      essential
      shampoos

The guiding principle behind our restructuring of the Essential Haircare shampoo formulations was restoring centrality to the essential.

The heart of this evolution lies in the new formulation chassis, particularly the washing complex, which has been reinvented with fewer ingredients and the elimination of synthetic substances such as silicones and acrylates.

The new balance was designed to offer our professional community an advanced and high-performance tool by best expressing the 5 fundamental pillars of cleansing:

      The
      quiet
      protagonist:
      inulin

While the active ingredients in each of Essential Haircare’s new lines may be the star of the show, there is another, quieter protagonist in this revolution.

Inulin is a natural sugar extracted from the roots of chicory. Its chemical structure is capable of trapping water, making it useful in the food sector for improving the consistency of food. In haircare, it has been used to hydrate the hair fiber, enhance the detangling and anti-frizz effect.

      A
      skincare
      oriented
      approach
      to
      conditioners
      and
      masks

In renewing the Essential Haircare conditioners and masks, Davines laboratories have applied the precision and refinement of skincare directly into the formulation of haircare, adapting ingredients to act on and deliver results to the hair fiber.

The new formulations offer lighter textures that leave the hair soft, shiny and disciplined. Each guarantees instant effectiveness, which does not require processing time.

Ingredients with a natural affinity to the hair

The innovative natural and natural origin emollients and biopolymers that have replaced silicones and acrylates ensure that the new products are high performance without compromise.

These functional ingredients have been selected for their affinity with the structure of the hair, and include:

      • Fatty acid esters derived from shea butter, beetroot and a blend of vegetable oils, known for their emollient and protective action.

      • Jojoba oil, which is highly compatible with hair fiber thanks to its compositional similarity to natural sebum.

Working together in synergy, these ingredients improve combability, increase softness, and strengthen the protective barrier of the hair, just as a face cream does with the skin.

Leave-in products for an advanced final touch

The story of Essential Haircare’s leave-in products is one of duality: a new formulation chassis that combines richness and lightness to meet the various needs of the hair.

There are 13 leave-in products in the range, featuring innovative biopolymers of natural origin, including cellulose and specific forms of starch derived from corn and potatoes.

      Regenerative
      Organic
      Certified™
      ingredients

At the heart of the Essential Haircare revolution is a vision that combines science, nature and responsibility. The range now includes nine new Regenerative Organic CertifiedTM ingredients3, carefully selected to offer tangible benefits to the hair while respecting the environment and all who live in it.

Sourced through responsible practices, these ingredients support local communities and promote social empowerment, while also embracing circularity by transforming leftover plant materials into valuable active metabolites, giving new life to resources that would otherwise go to waste.

      Gentle and innovative extraction

To ensure maximum effectiveness, the extraction method used to isolate our natural ingredients has been chosen with the same care as the ingredients themselves. It is gentle, sustainable and designed to preserve the integrity of the active metabolites.

In the Davines laboratories, our scientists use a pressure-modulated process, which takes place at room temperature and naturally releases all the substances necessary to revolutionise the Essential Haircare products.

This ingeniously simple process ensures the active substances remain unaltered, ready to be integrated into new formulations, where they can fully express their nourishing, detangling, protective, antioxidant and restorative properties.
